AlizeeAlizée Jacotey (pronounced /a.lɪ.ze/) was born August 21, 1984 in Ajaccio, Corsica. The daughter of a computer scientist and a businesswoman, with a younger brother Johann, she is a famed French singer. Her stage name is Alizée - the feminine form of Alizé, or "The trade wind". She is considered to be the protégée of Mylène Farmer, a well-established and successful Quebec-born French singer.

Alizée made her debut with the single "Moi... Lolita", which still is her most successful one. It enjoyed success throughout most of Europe and parts of east Asia. Indeed, Alizée's image was that of a seductive Lolita character. But after "Moi... Lolita", she changed her image from that of a Lolita to a seventeen year old girl. Her second single "L'Alizé" was also successful (hitting number 1 in France). Both the singles were from her debut album, "Gourmandises", which translates to "Sweets" in English. The album, written by Farmer and composed by Boutonnat, sold over 800,000 copies in France. It went Platinum in just 3 months. In 2001, with huge international interest, the album got launched internationally and its success was phenomenal.

In 2003 she returned with her second album "Mes Courants Électriques", or "My Electric Currents" in English. This album also was written by Farmer and Boutonnat. The first single from this album, "J'en ai marre", known as "Mon Bain de Mousse" in Japan, had some success outside France, although not to the same extent as "Moi...Lolita". This second album, featuring English versions of four tracks, was not as well recieved as "Gourmandises." It sold a little over 200,000 copies. The album was supported by a countrywide tour. A live CD and DVD, by the name "Alizée En Concert", followed. The DVD featured never-before-seen footage of her rehearsals.

Alizée can now pride herself on having sold more than four million records of all her records combined, throughout Europe. She has even starred in a commercial in Japan. In addition, she has taken part in various stage shows and live performances. As she has herself said, she loves to be on the stage, in front of the crowd.

Alizée is currently taking a break from singing since her marriage to French singer Jérémy Châtelain in November 2003. She has also avoided being in the media in the same period. In fact, her first television apperance since her marriage has been on MTV France, on February 18, 2006. She is currently residing in Paris, France, and is expected to make a comeback with a new album in 2006.
