Aphex Twin born Richard David James, August 18, 1971, in Limerick, Ireland, to Welsh parents Lorna and Derek James. He grew up in Cornwall, England and supposedly started producing music at the age of 12.
Richard has been hailed as "the most inventive and influential figure in contemporary electronic music" with his works ranging from ambient pieces to acid house. Despite his awkward and confusing interviews, he claims to have started composing techno music at age 13 (which contradicts most of his other music history). In 1991 Aphex formed the Rephlex record label with his friend Grant Wilson-Claridge. Signed artists include Mike Paradinas (aka µ-Ziq) and Squarepusher.
While the below list will indicate that Richard is prolific (to say the least), he most recently released the 11-disk "Analord" series on vinyl. All the music was composed using gear from his collection of analogue equipment (Analogue Lord), and a compilation of highlights was released this year under the AFX moniker as "Chosen Lords."
