MadonnaMadonna Ritchie (born Madonna Louise Ciccone on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, USA) is an iconic pop singer, dancer, songwriter, producer, author and actress.

After signing to Sire Records in 1982, hits such as "Holiday," "Like a Virgin" and "Like a Prayer" catapulted her to massive success. By the 1990s, her commercially successful albums, constantly reinvented image, groundbreaking music videos and controversial nature would earn her the title "Queen of Pop."

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Madonna is the most successful female solo artist of all time. Apart from achieving twelve number one hits and thirty-seven top ten hits on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, she has garnered twenty MTV Video Music Awards (including the Video Vanguard Award), five Grammy Awards, as well as a Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) Golden Globe Award for her performance in 'Evita'. Two soundtrack cuts performed by her, "Sooner or Later" and "You Must Love Me", were awarded with Oscars.

Madonna's most recent release, the 2005 album 'Confessions On A Dance Floor', set a new world record by going to No. 1 in a total of 40 countries, the most ever for an album. The lead single, "Hung Up," also set a record for going to No. 1 in 41 countries. "Hung Up" has become one of Madonna's best selling singles ever with a total sales of 4.7+ million from digital, ringtones and single sales.

Recent projects:

Madonna has recently lent her voice to the big budget (approximately 80 million dollars) 2006 animated film 'Arthur and the Minimoys'. Madonna provides the voice of Princess Selenia. The film, directed by Luc Besson, was expected to be released in December 2006.

The fourth and last single from 'Confessions On A Dance Floor', "Jump", was expected to be released in October, 2006, accompanied by a music video recorded in Tokyo and directed by Jonas Åkerlund, and a so-far unreleased COAD track, titled History as B-side. Her 'Confessions Tour' has ended somewhat recently, grossing a total of $200,000,000 and a recording was said to be aired on NBC, on 22 November. During her tour however, she had already started working on her new album.

Also due on 24 October, 2006 was Madonna's fifth children's book, "The English Roses: Too Good To be True" which is a sequel to her first children's book "The English Roses". As a debut act, there was to have been a public reading in the Barnes & Noble book store in New York, and she was to have been promoting the book in many TV appearances. All the income from it was to have been donated to the Raising Malawi foundation.

In the Fall of 2006, Madonna was featured in H&M's latest advertising campaign around the world.

Her Confessions Tour DVD/CD is scheduled to be released on January 30th. The DVD contains the registration of her Confessions Tour at London's Wembley Arena, including the controversial performance of "Live To Tell".
