en | | T.I. (born Clifford Joseph Harris, Jr. on September 25, 1980 in Atlanta, Georgia) is a Southern based rapper known for his rapid-fire delivery of lyrics. He is known as the self-proclaimed "King of the South" and the Rubberband Man. His original name, "T.I.P.", stems from his childhood nickname Tip. He started spelling it out because it was hard for people to understand what his name was due to his southern drawl. He later shortened it to T.I. when he was on Arista out of respect for Q-tip who was also an Arista artist. He also previously had a feud with Houston rapper Lil' Flip. They both claim to be the "King of the South", which led to an album created by a southern DJ. This album is called "Fight for the Throne." The CD has unreleased songs and freestyle raps of the two rappers slaying words of hate and insult to each other. The CD was never put on shelves for music label reasons, but is widely available on the Internet. The thirty-two track CD was a smash hit in the underground rap world.
T.I. has four children (three boys and one girl) by three different women and is currently dating Tiny from Xscape. Children: Messiah YaMajesty Harris, Domani Uriah Harris, Deyjah Harris and King Harris
T.I. signed to Arista Records' subsidiary LaFace Records in 2001. He is a member of an underground "posse" known as P$C (pimp squad click). He runs his own record label called Grand Hustle Records. He generated a buzz after releasing his debut album I'm Serious, which spawned the single of the same title which featured reggae vocalist Beenie Man. His debut included Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes, Jazze Pha and The Youngbloodz.
Due to lack of promotion he left LaFace Records and Arista. After a two year hiatus, he reemerged on Bone Crusher's single Neva Scared and from that success T.I. was quickly signed to Atlantic Records. His success since his departure from Arista came from his Platinum-selling sophomore album Trap Muzik.
Trap Muzik quickly became one of the fastest-selling albums in the southern rap genre, featuring the hits "24s", "Rubberband Man", and "Be Easy". The success of the album was followed by some controversy: while on tour, T.I. turned himself in and was charged with violating his probation over a 1998 drug charge. He was sentenced to three years in prison. While there he was granted rights to film the music video for his introduction at ATL's Birthday Bash.
On his sophomore release, --his first for Atlantic Records-- T.I. fills the prescription for reality music: uncovering life stories from the trap, depicting the unrefined essence of street life and, more specifically, unveiling the grim realities of the drug game. "It's called trap music," T.I. explains. "So you know it's gonna be dealing with all aspects of the trap. And if you don't know what the trap is, that's basically where drugs are sold. In this country, the majority of us live in a neighborhood where drugs are sold, whether we like it or not. Whether you in the trap selling dope, whether you in the trap buying dope, whether you in the trap trying to get out--whatever the case may be, I'm trying to deal with all aspects of that lifestyle. Trap Muzik is an introduction to an often-glamorized underworld, a musical collage of scenes that play out like excerpts from a TV drama. But to others, it's an all-too-familiar slice of everyday life. It's informative for people who don't know nothing about that side of life and wonder why somebody they know that live on that side of life act the way they do or do the things they do. So it's informative for them and maybe it can help them deal with these people, help them relate to these people, help them understand, help them to see their point of view a little better. It's also inspiration for people who live that life."Links T.I., muslib.ru (рус.)Version Mon, 04 Jun 2007 12:07:49 +0400
