Blink-182 was a Southern-California pop punk band that was formed in 1992 by Tom Delonge, Mark Hoppus, and Scott Raynor in the northern San Diego suburb of Poway, California.
They released a number of albums over the following years, including Flyswatter (1993), Buddha (1995), Cheshire Cat (1995), and Dude Ranch (1997).
In 1998, Scott Raynor discontinued his drumming in blink-182 for reasons that have never been officially clarified. This forced Travis Barker, the drummer of The Aquabats, to quickly learn their 20 songs (in under an hour) to perform at an upcoming concert. After performing, Travis Barker soon became their official drummer.
With Travis replacing Scott Enema of the State (1999), The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (2000), Take Off Your Pants and Jacket (2001) and their self-titled CD(2003), were produced.
The group is known for playing catchy melodies, as well as their satirical toilet humor and stand-up comedy at concerts. Known as a band that plays up-tempo songs with prominent major-chord harmonies, often digitally mixed, to provide a much cleaner sound than typical punk/rock recordings generally employing distortion and ragged analogue mixes to achieve the opposite effect. The lyrical content of their songs, especially prior to their last two albums, is often humorous and uplifting. Although the band is labelled as Blink 182 on albums prior to Raynor's departure, the specific syntax for the band's current name is blink-182, as opposed to Blink-182 or their former name, blink. The numbers 182 were added to the band's name to prevent a copyright conflict with an Irish techno group that calls itself "Blink". As of February 22 2005, they announced to the world that they were on an "indefinite hiatus" and have remained so until this day.
According to various interviews, Mark Hoppus has stated that Tom has since quit the band. Also according to these interviews it is easy to say that blink-182 is not likely to work together again anytime soon, but a reunion is not out of the question for any of the members.
However, the individuals of blink-182 still continue to work on numerous projects - Tom DeLonge just finished his Angels & Airwaves debut album We Don't Need to Whisper. Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have remained together for the birth of (+44), which released their debut album When Your Heart Stops Beating together with guitarists Craig Fairbaugh and Shane Gallagher on November 14, 2006.Links blink-182, muslib.ru (рус.)Version Sat, 24 Nov 2007 00:27:46 +0300
